House Republicans Read The Bill

About this Amplog

As House Republicans continue to battle Speaker Pelosi’s $1.3 trillion government takeover of health care, they’re using a new tool - Amplify.com - to engage the American people in a section-by-section dialogue scrutinizing all 1,990 pages of PelosiCare. Republicans hope the new site will provide the American people with an unfiltered online clearinghouse for emerging information about the Pelosi bill as Democrats attempt to bring the massive legislation to a vote. The idea is simple. As House Republicans pour pore through the Speaker’s health care monstrosity and uncover harmful provisions not being disclosed to the American people by the majority, Amplify allows House Republicans to clip specific portions and explain what they mean in plain English.

What we're reading about

Section 330: Congress not required to enroll in public option

replynnjenkins says:

Section 330 permits - but does not require - Members of Congress to enroll in government-run health care.

This section would allow members who support a government takeover of health care to avoid participating in the very system that they are pushing on the American people. It seems that the Democrat majority is saying it’s good enough for their constituents, but they are not willing to give up their own private insurance.

SEC. 330. ENROLLMENT IN PUBLIC HEALTH INSURANCE OPTION BY MEMBERS OF CONGRESS.

Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, Members of Congress may enroll in the public health insurance option.

Just want to point out that the Senate Finance bill would require members of Congress and congressional staff to give up their Federal Employees Health Benefits and buy insurance through the exchange.

If both bills pass their respective chambers, it will be interesting to see how this is resolved by the Democrats in conference committee.

Donny, We know how they’ll resolve things in conference - the option will stay, not the mandate. They don’t want what they are peddling and their staffers would revolt if they had to go on the government plan.

You’re right — congress works for us, and I think we should get access to the same high quality insurance that congress gets. Please propose an amendment which would ensure that everyone gets the same quality care as the people in congress.
